Drawing Fundamentals with Morgan Zoe

Learn the Basics of Composition and Sketching.

Makerspace YK

Service Description

Join Tłı̨chǫ artist Morgan Zoe for a free evening of sketchbook drawing, composition planning, and visual storytelling inspired by science fiction, observation, and imagination. Presented in collaboration with the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, this workshop coincides with the opening of Morgan Zoe’s exhibition, The Cyberpunk Smoke Signals of Morgan Zoe, opening June 25, 2026 at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Through a combination of artist talk, demonstrations, and guided drawing exercises, participants will explore techniques for developing ideas through sketching and building an active sketchbook practice. The session will begin with a short informal artist talk and discussion about Morgan’s work and creative process, followed by hands-on exercises and independent drawing time with feedback and support throughout the evening. Each participant will receive a free sketchbook to take home and continue developing their drawing practice after the workshop. This workshop is beginner-friendly and open to participants ages 12/13+, and is suitable for both teens and adults interested in drawing, sketchbook practice, and visual storytelling. All materials will be provided at no cost. The workshop is free to attend, but participants must register through the Makerspace YK website. About the Artist Morgan Zoe is a Tłı̨chǫ artist from Behchokǫ̀, NWT. He began drawing and painting from an early age and continued his art education in high school and college, graduating with a diploma in Visual Arts from Northwestern Polytechnic in 2018. In college, Morgan began exploring the idea of merging Native American Indigenous culture with the sci-fi cyberpunk sub genre. Preferring to draw using a realistic comic book style, he is also influenced by historical art movements and classical masters and often includes himself as a character in his drawings.
