Animate the Night with Projection Mapping

Are you an animator or projection mapping artist based in the NWT?

Makerspace YK and Western Arctic Moving Pictures are excited to bring back Augment YK in 2026!

We’re inviting NWT artists to submit proposals for projection mapping animations and video works for the Folk on the Rocks festival.

3 artists or artist teams will be selected to create and show a projection mapped installation at the festival site from July 17–19

What is Projection Mapping?

Projection mapping is a technique where video, animation, or light is projected onto real-world surfaces like buildings, objects, or stages to make them look animated or transformed. Instead of projecting onto a flat screen, the visuals are carefully matched to the shape of the surface so the images appear to move with it. It’s often used in art installations, concerts, festivals, and events to create immersive visual experiences.

Eligibility

Open to artists in the NWT, Yukon or Nunavut***. NWT artists will be prioritized.

We recommend that artists have experience or basic knowledge of projection mapping.

Artists must be available in Yellowknife during the week leading up to the festival (July 10-17)for install.

Artists that don’t have experience with projection mapping installation will also be required to attend a projection mapping workshop in early-mid June in Yellowknife.
