Making Space: Weird & Queer Winters
This workshop is offered as a part of our Making Space Artist-in-Residence program
Service Description
Calling all 2-spirit, queer and trans folks! Come share the weird, queer and silly ways you survive (or thrive in) winter while contributing to a collaborative zine and sharing a meal with our artist-in-residence, Alana Norie! In this two-hour session, participants will be guided through creative prompts about their experiences of winter to create a page for a collaborative zine in any medium (writing, drawing, collage, and more). Through expressing our wintering stories on paper participants will be invited to join in resisting the narrative that queer life is only to be celebrated in the summer. Along the way you will learn more about zines; a historical and contemporary small-circulation publishing practice as well multimedia techniques to express your voice. At the end of the workshop participants will walk away with their own zine page, and will receive a digital copy of the collaborative zine later in the winter! This beginner-friendly workshop is open to all 2SLGBTQIPA+ folks and their allies ages 12 and up. All supplies will be provided, but if you have photos, paper scraps, or other materials that you’d like to experiment with, please bring them. Alana will be cooking everyone a warm meal to share at the end of the workshop and folks are welcome to bring a dish to share, but this is certainly not required! Come join us for an evening of queer creativity, storytelling and play!
